Following an extensive planning and construction phase, the new primary pre-melting furnace at the Speedline Aluminium foundry in Schlins has been successfully commissioned. The pre-melting furnace supports the optimisation of the carbon footprint.
With a regenerative burner system and an energy-efficient preheating chamber, the pre-melting furnace makes a valuable contribution to the production process at the remelting foundry.
In the integrated preheating chamber, the hot exhaust gases from the other furnaces are used to preheat the primary aluminium to up to 400°C before charging. The energy savings achieved by using the hot flue gases amount to approximately 9%, thus contributing to a steady reduction in the CO2 footprint.
The project was funded by the Environmental Promotion Fund of the Federal Ministry for the Environment (BMLUK).
